Hey kids,
this might be a bit early but I was thinking about going to Monterey this year to watch. I know someone went in the years past, I don't know about tickets selling out but I know I'd like to go and don't want to miss out :).
Anyone interested or know anything about it in detail like first hand?

Still two months away but who's all going where....or do we not know that yet? 3 day tickets are $90 for MotoGP + $50 for parking all 3 days.

If no one else can go up to motogp I would be ok with terrible's cup but I would really rather go to motogp.
Not sure what the transportation into the raceway will be like this year but I was a big fan of driving up with bikes in the truck and then riding into the venue from Monterey or Santa Cruz. If my SV is running by then someone else is welcome to ride it.

For Terrible's Cup, John, Lucass, me and I'm sure some other ppl are planning on going. I want to fly, but I have to make sure that everyone else is down for that. Right now there are tickets to fly from SD at 7:15pm on Thur July 17 for $59 and same for flight home if we leave Sun at 6:25am.
Let me know who would be willing to go to Terrible's Cup if the motogp thing falls through so that I can at least get some idea of the most amount of ppl going could be.
Also, just to throw this is, I signed us up to race the June 14 MDR race yesterday. We should be ready to go hopefully a couple weeks before the race and get a prerun in. It's the night race so we can get wasted right after we finish :D.

For those considering Laguna Seca, what are you thinking for accommodations? I'd bet hotels nearby have already been sold out.
grasinski
06-10-2008, 06:49 PM
i was thinking of hitting up a friend or three. as close as salinas or santa cruz and as far away as fremont. have you looked at any hotels?
brian
06-10-2008, 11:36 PM
Anything around Monterey seems to be booked. If there are ANY available...you're looking at 150-200 a night. Seaside might still have some, haven't checked yet.

06-11-2008, 07:45 PM
well, if we can get a crew it might be worth it. i think i was planning only on race day, so that would be two nights. what is your plan
brian
06-12-2008, 08:51 AM
My schedule's flexible. If there aren't that many people going, I think I'll drive up sat morning, check out practice, qualifying and stay for the race on Sunday and then leave. Race day only is Sunday....so why would you stay two nights? Do you plan on leaving Monday morning?
grasinski
06-12-2008, 06:28 PM
well yeah i guess it could only be one. you'd have to leave ass early ie late friday to get there for saturday morning. im DFW too. if we could get a count that would be the best way to figure things out.
brian
06-13-2008, 12:18 AM
Last time we went up, we left around midnight or so on Friday, rolled into Monterey around 6am. Haha, now I remember what we did between 6am and 10am. We passed out near the Suzuki tent. Dammit, I can't find the picture of everyone lying on the grass.

I would like to buy the tickets for Terrible's Cup either this Sunday or Monday. I also need to get the hotel rm reserved, so if anyone is going to go, I would like to know for sure in the next couple days.
The race is at the Primm CORR venue I believe and I will be getting a rm at a hotel on the strip if it's not too crazy expensive.

Primm Corr Venue? No more LVMS?

I'm pretty sure, haven't looked into it hard enough but I have read things on RDC that hint at it. Also, it's no long called Terrible's Cup, it's called the Las Vegas Cup. Pretty crappy I think.
edit: Nevermind about it being at Primm, it is at the Las Vegas Motorspeedway Dirt Track still... but it's name is different! Atleast I knew that part! :D

I'm thinking we're going to stay at the Golden Nugget. It's been refurbished very well in the last two years with a badass pool and a good buffet. Plus I might be able to get a deal on the rooms, but we'll see.

I was actually notified by the ticket sales company that the event was cancelled and I would be receiving a full refund. I also just cancelled the hotel res and will receive a full refund. I don't really like Vegas for much else than the sweet off road and monster truck events. I can do the gambling here at Barona or Viejas just w/o alcohol or dice games. Oh well, I hope they come up with another race of this nature that more drivers would want to do in the future.

Ya for $90 a ticket I'll catch it on TV. I don't really enjoy watching road racing in person, very boring. Like the sounds for sure, but just not worth it for me.

Who's all going? anyone interested in the other ticket? I think he's asking $125 OBO. Probably can get them $200 for both?
Turn 4 paddock suite tickets includes 3 days of admission, paddock access, preferred parking, and a souvenir program which will be available on saturday at turn 4 paddock suite check-in. You will enjoy the comforts of an assigned seat in an elevated suite overlooking the turn 4 area. On saturday and sunday only, a gourmet style breakfast and lunch will be served. this premier ticket package also includes an open beverage bar serving water, soda, beer and wine.
edit: now that I think about it, sounds like a scam.

Haha, I wasn't insulting MotoGP doods, I personally don't enjoy seeing racing like that enough to spend the 90. I know it's cool, it's definitely extreme racing and I would go see it if it was a lot cheaper and a lot closer... ;)

Everytime I think of hot girls at MotoGP, I can only remember a lady you pointed out......the one with the belly button ring with a chain going through it and around her waist with another chain going down into her "skirt". :o <-- That wasn't an umbrella girl just so everyone knows ;D

Question of the day: who is driving? I believe the options are:
a Lightning,
a diesel,
a 2 seat + 2 half seat X-runner,
or a Focus.
Yes I realize I may have answered my own question.
brian
07-05-2008, 11:03 PM
I say Lightning and the Diesel...and the last person to Laguna Seca has to buy the other person's fuel for the trip ;D!!!!
I am fine with any arrangement.
grasinski
07-06-2008, 01:28 PM
well i just figured since there were so few of us we could theoretically take one car and save a million dollars on gas

if the focus is an option I say we do that. We can take the diesel but it won't be light on the wallet

i'm curious to see how fast they come up over the crest on the front straight (if i can get a good line of sight) and see how fast they drop down the cork screw.
jose, i'll let you know for sure how slow miramar's karts are :)

lol sweet thanks man. See how close u actually get to that advertised speed of 40pmh! :D
What would be cool is to use that at the next race to see how fast the TT's are going down main compared to John's truck haha.
brian
07-15-2008, 07:48 PM
27-30 mph into the first turn on the front straight, depending on weight :) around 25-27 mph going into the back turn on the back straight.
not exactly close to "40 mph" :)

as fast as that guy was going it is amazing that he was relatively unhurt from that crash!
brian
07-22-2008, 02:55 PM
he was probably close to 70 when he high-sided :)
as for other speed traps, they'll hit close to 150 approaching that turn according to a CHP radar gun......a little over 50 mph dropping down into the corkscrew....and a bit over 100 before making the left through the rainy curves (the one coming down from the cork screw), the 125CC KTM's were around 88 mph on that same turn.
i couldn't get any readings on the front straight....just too far away. turn 1 on a gp bike looks so badass.
