drill out stripped hole and tap to bigger thread size, then insert helicoil (tool may be req) then thread in original bolt. At least one way to do it. locktite the helicoil into the part so it can't some out also.

make sure it is only one size bigger so you dont remove too much material around the hole.

If you don't remove the bolt much, heli-coils work well. However, if it is a bolt constantly being removed and reinstalled, I'd go with TimeSerts www.timesert.com. They are way more durable, and don't come out after repeated use.
The thing with HeliCoils is that you need to be mindful of the type of threaded hole you are repairing. If it is a hole that is not open on both sides, your OK. however, if it's a threaded through hole, the best way to do it is to 1. Drill out the hole so that just the threads are barely gone, so that the bolt you need to install can slide freely in and out of the hole. Then 2. Use the proper drill bit required for the heli-coil (it will be specified on the package) to drill the hole out even bigger until you can feel the tip of the drill bit touching your finger, leaving the last 1/4" of the hole with a smaller ID than the rest of the hole. That way, the helicoil will have something to stop it from coming out the other end. Some people just drill all the way through the hole then only tap most of it, but that ****s up the helicoil.
Also, helicoils are different lengths. Buy a helicoil kit with the longest Heli springs that will fit. However, do not buy smaller ones and install 2 on top of each other. Because of the way Helicoils install with breaking off the end of the spring, they usually don't line up well enough for the bolt to continue threading. I have made it work before, but it's a PITA.
What size of bolt is it anyway? I dropped 2 bills a while back on a cheap helicoil kit, so if you need a bolt size my kit has, I'll bring it back from the desert this weekend and give you a hand installing it. I decided to drop my pseudo-grad class, so I've got some time now.

I know my kit goes down to m6, but can't remember if it has m5's. I'll check this weekend.
